Located on River Road just off the TCH. Sometimes referred to by locals as “Wuddles” The Chemainus Lake Park is used and loved by many. Everyone from dog walkers, joggers, families, geocachers & fisherman enjoy this Park.
Enter a gravel parking lot, surrounded by a forest full of fir, cedar & arbutus trees, Follow the trail down to the dock & fishing area. OR strap on your shoes and get ready for a short- but beautiful hike only minutes away from everything the town of Chemainus has to offer.
This well maintained trail loops 2.5 KM around the lake with multiple view points. And is rated as an ‘easy’ hike. Along the way, the trail is lined with classic West Coast fern and fauna. Look for all sorts of wild mushrooms, flowers & wildlife. Bears and cougar are often sometimes spotted around the lake. As well as smaller critters such as birds, and squirrels and you may even catch a glimpse of the elusive Chemainus Lake Beaver- its Dam is visible from the west side of the trail on the lake itself. Ducks, loons, herons and swans are seen enjoying the calm waters of the lake throughout the year. It doesn’t happen very often, but once in awhile it is cold enough for the lake to freeze over and residents of chemainus will still enjoy the lake playing hockey, or ice skating!
This stroller friendly trail is a favorite for families, the hike is easy enough for smaller kids, and with so much to see, the parents will love it too. After your walk, you can head down to the fishing dock and try your hand catching trout or sun fish!
Chemainus Lake is one of few off leash dog areas in the Town of Chemainus. The Town supplies doggy bags, and the lake is a perfect spot for Fido to cool off after your hike!
